Palestinian Ambassador Meets Chief Justice, Commends Bangladesh’s Judicial Reforms

Dhaka, August 12, 2025 – On Tuesday, Palestinian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yousef SY Ramadan, held a courtesy meeting with Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed in Dhaka to discuss bilateral relations and advancements in the judicial systems of both nations.

The Chief Justice elaborated on transformative steps taken over the past year to strengthen Bangladesh’s judiciary, underscoring his vision for a robust, independent, and transparent judicial framework. Notable reforms include a comprehensive judicial reform roadmap, a 12-point directive to enhance transparency in judicial services, a competency-based system for providing legal aid to defendants, legislation establishing the Supreme Judicial Appointment Council for appointing higher court judges, the introduction of a Supreme Court helpline for litigants, and capacity-building initiatives for lower courts.

Ambassador Ramadan congratulated Chief Justice Ahmed on his successful one-year tenure and lauded the progressive reforms, describing them as a model for judicial development. He expressed heartfelt appreciation for the steadfast support of the Bangladeshi people for Palestine’s cause. Chief Justice Ahmed reaffirmed Bangladesh’s unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people and emphasized the commitment to deepening ties between the two nations through continued collaboration in legal, cultural, and diplomatic spheres.
