Dhaka, September 6, 2025 – Norway has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s path toward democracy by joining as a donor partner in Phase 1 of the BALLOT project, aimed at strengthening the Bangladesh Election Commission (BEC). On August 4, 2025, the Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka signed an agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bangladesh to facilitate this initiative.
The BALLOT project is designed to enhance the legitimacy, inclusivity, and transparency of Bangladesh’s electoral process by bolstering the institutional, technical, and operational capacities of the BEC. The initiative seeks to create an enabling environment for free, fair, and peaceful elections, ensuring all citizens can participate in a transparent electoral process.
Norway’s contribution underscores its dedication to supporting Bangladesh’s efforts to conduct free and fair elections early next year, marking a significant step in the country’s democratic journey.
