Danish Ambassador and Bangladeshi Adviser Discuss Maritime and Labor Cooperation

Dhaka, September 4, 2025 – Danish Ambassador Christian Brix Møller met with Dr. M Shakhawat Hossain, Adviser for Shipping and Labour and Employment (acting Minister), to discuss strengthening the partnership between Bangladesh and Denmark in the maritime sector.

The meeting focused on the progress of the Laldia Container Terminal project in Chattogram, a key Bangladeshi-Danish initiative, and MAERSK/APMT’s commitment to further investment in Bangladesh. Dr. Shakhawat reiterated Bangladesh’s dedication to sustainable maritime development and expressed strong support for the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) vision of achieving carbon-neutral shipping by 2050.

The discussions also covered amendments to the Bangladesh Labour Act. As a member of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Governing Body and the EU’s 3+5+1 framework, Denmark voiced support for aligning the Act with ILO standards, a step toward meeting the criteria for the EU’s GSP+ trade scheme.

The meeting underscored the shared commitment of both nations to advancing sustainable development and labor reforms.
