Malaysia to Introduce Graduate Plus Visas for Bangladeshi Students

Malaysia is set to offer Graduate Plus visas to Bangladeshi students, providing access to high-skilled job opportunities in its growing economy, according to discussions held in Kuala Lumpur.

During a meeting at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus raised the proposal with Malaysian Higher Education Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir. Dr. Asif Nazrul, Adviser for Law, Justice, and Overseas Recruitment, stated, “The minister has agreed in principle to issue Graduate Plus visas to Bangladeshi students, pending the completion of necessary formalities.”

Approximately 10,000 Bangladeshi students are currently enrolled in Malaysian universities. Unlike students from other countries who can access Malaysia’s job market, Bangladeshi students have not yet had this opportunity. In a separate meeting, Malaysian Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and Professor Yunus explored ways to strengthen educational ties, including expanding scholarships for Bangladeshi students and enhancing student and faculty exchange programs. Dhaka also requested formal recognition of Bangladeshi degrees by Malaysian authorities. Professor Yunus highlighted his “Three Zero” campaign, which focuses on eradicating poverty, unemployment, and carbon emissions. “A world without poverty must be imagined to make it a reality,” he said, advocating for a sustainable global civilization. He extended an invitation to Minister Fadhlina to visit Dhaka to further educational collaboration.
The meetings were attended by Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain, Energy Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan, National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Special Envoy Lutfey Siddiqi, and Senior Secretary on SDG Affairs Lamiya Morshed.
