Bangladesh-China Cultural Bond to Boost Bilateral Ties, Says Farooki

Dhaka, August 13, 2025 – Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki emphasized that the growing cultural bond between Bangladesh and China will inject new dynamism into their bilateral relationship. Speaking at a press conference held at the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka on Wednesday, organized to mark a drone training initiative, Farooki highlighted the significance of cultural and technological collaboration.

The event celebrated the upcoming departure of an 11-member Bangladeshi delegation to China for a month-long drone formation performance training program in Shanghai and Guangzhou, set to begin on August 15 and conclude on September 13. Farooki noted that the initiative, supported by the Chinese government, received over 500 applications, with 11 candidates selected for the program.

“Drone technology is a new medium for storytelling, blending art and technology to create compelling narratives,” Farooki said, referencing six recent drone shows in Bangladesh, supported by China, which have gained widespread popularity among the youth. He expressed optimism that such initiatives would open new avenues for collaboration between Bangladesh’s Cultural Affairs Ministry and the Chinese government, particularly in preserving cultural heritage and advancing both traditional and new media. Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen, also present at the event, reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Bangladesh in economic and cultural spheres. “This drone training program is just the beginning. We welcome this exchange, which strengthens people-to-people connectivity and takes our relationship to new heights,” Yao said. He highlighted a recent drone show in Dhaka, part of the “36 July Celebration,” as a milestone in cultural and technological collaboration. Additionally, Farooki announced that a 15-member delegation will soon travel to China for training on preserving artworks, with plans to share their expertise upon return. Another team will undertake a month-long program in Shanghai and Guangzhou to enhance museum development, funded by the Chinese government. The initiatives underscore a shared commitment to fostering cultural exchange and technological innovation, paving the way for a stronger Bangladesh-China partnership.
