Jashore, August 24, 2025 – Bashundhara Shuvosangho organized an awareness meeting at Nowapara Shankarpasha Government Secondary School in Abhoynagar, Jashore, on Sunday morning to address the issues of child marriage and dowry. The event targeted students from grades 9 and 10, aiming to educate and mobilize them against these social issues.
The meeting was chaired by Syed Sowaheb Imtiaz Yad, president of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Abhoynagar Upazila unit. The school’s principal, Shahidul Islam, served as the chief guest, joined by assistant teachers SM Faruk Ahmed and Nazmunnahar Suma, Shuvosangho Adviser and Kaler Kantho Correspondent Syed Zahid Masud Taj, Hafiz Naimul Hasan Jony, and guardian GM Bacchu as special guests.
Principal Shahidul Islam condemned child marriage as a “social scourge” that ruins young girls’ futures and described dowry as an “inhumane practice” that exacerbates financial inequality. He urged collective action and immediate reporting of such incidents to authorities. Grade 10 student Taufiqul Islam called for stronger awareness campaigns in rural areas and stricter legal measures to deter child marriage. Grade 9 student Sidratul Muntaha Ikra labeled dowry a “social disgrace” linked to child abuse, domestic violence, and family conflicts.
Syed Sowaheb Imtiaz Yad highlighted poverty and insecurity as key drivers of child marriage, emphasizing Shuvosangho’s commitment to raising awareness among students and the public. “With collective effort, we can end both child marriage and dowry,” he said, affirming the organization’s ongoing initiatives.
The event saw participation from Shuvosangho’s Vice Presidents Azgar Ali and Rajoy Rabbi, Treasurer Akib Hossain Galib, Organising Secretary Matin Gazi, and members Asjad Isnad and Hasan Masud.
