Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Adviser Travels to US for Palestine Crisis Talks

Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain has embarked on a trip to the United States to attend a high-level international conference at the United Nations headquarters focused on resolving the ongoing Palestine crisis.

On Sunday morning, he departed from Dhaka to participate in the “High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Resolution of the Palestine Question and Advancing the Two-State Solution,” set to take place on July 28 and 29. Co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia under UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/79/81 (December 2024), this ministerial-level summit aims to address critical issues surrounding the Palestine crisis.

Alongside the conference, Touhid Hossain is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with ministers from several nations and senior UN officials. These discussions will center on promoting the two-state solution and addressing the worsening humanitarian and political situation in Gaza. According to Foreign Ministry sources, the Adviser is expected to return to Bangladesh early on August 1. A senior official from the ministry emphasized on Saturday that Touhid Hossain will strongly reaffirm Bangladesh’s steadfast support for Palestinian rights and the practical implementation of the two-state solution. The official added that Bangladesh will underscore its commitment to international law, the UN Charter, and relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and General Assembly. The Adviser will also advocate for a credible, time-bound roadmap to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East, the official noted. The UN conference is regarded as a pivotal step toward fostering global consensus on effective governance in Gaza, ensuring uninterrupted humanitarian aid, and securing broader recognition of the State of Palestine.
Bangladesh has long been a vocal supporter of Palestine in international platforms. It was among the earliest nations to recognize the State of Palestine following its declaration of independence in 1988.
