Dhaka Seeks Stronger Ties with Australia in Skill Development and Migration

Dhaka, August 8, 2025 – Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam has called for enhanced collaboration between Bangladesh’s Technical Training Centers (TTCs) and Australia’s Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions to boost skill development and language training for Bangladeshi youth. The proposal includes deploying Australian instructors to Bangladesh to support these initiatives.

During a recent courtesy call by Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Susan Ryle at the Foreign Ministry, Siam expressed gratitude for Australia’s decision to relocate its visa processing center to Dhaka. The meeting covered a range of mutual interests, including trade, investment, energy cooperation, migration, visa facilitation, and technical and vocational training.

Siam highlighted the growing demand for Australian commodities in Bangladesh, urging Australia to explore this market further. He also requested more scholarships for Bangladeshi students and support for promoting regular migration to Australia. In response, High Commissioner Ryle welcomed the signing of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to address illegal migration between the two nations. She affirmed Australia’s commitment to deepening cooperation in all areas of mutual interest and praised Bangladesh’s dedication to multilateralism. Ryle assured continued engagement in regional and multilateral forums and pledged Australia’s support for the early repatriation of Rohingya refugees to their homeland.
