Dhaka Reaffirms Commitment to BIMSTEC with Focus on Enhanced Cooperation

Dhaka, August 8, 2025 – Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam has reiterated Bangladesh’s strong commitment to the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) process, emphasizing the need for enhanced collaboration in key areas such as trade and investment, connectivity, energy, climate change, and people-to-people contacts.

The reaffirmation came during a recent courtesy call by BIMSTEC Secretary General Indra Mani Pandey at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Pandey briefed Siam on the latest progress and ongoing efforts within the BIMSTEC framework, highlighting Bangladesh’s significant contributions to advancing BIMSTEC initiatives. He stressed the importance of strengthened regional collaboration to achieve the organization’s goals.

As the current chair of BIMSTEC, Siam expressed Bangladesh’s readiness to host sectoral meetings at convenient times. Both sides explored potential initiatives during Bangladesh’s chairmanship to promote a prosperous, resilient, and open BIMSTEC region. Siam welcomed Pandey’s assurance of full support during Bangladesh’s tenure as chair.
