Dutch Ambassador Presents Credentials to Bangladesh President, Signals Stronger Bilateral Ties

Dhaka, August 18, 2025 – Just over a week after arriving in Dhaka, the Dutch Ambassador to Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Joris van Bommel, presented his credentials to President H.E. Mr. Mohammed Shahabuddin in a formal ceremony yesterday. The event marked a significant moment in reinforcing the robust partnership between the Netherlands and Bangladesh.

During their discussions, both leaders underscored the excellent bilateral relationship, highlighting cooperation in key sectors such as water management, agriculture, maritime, and the ready-made garments industry. The longstanding collaboration, including training programs, scholarships, and the successful Orange Corner initiative supporting young Bangladeshi entrepreneurs, was also praised. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to promoting democracy, human rights, and strengthening civil society.

President Shahabuddin and Ambassador van Bommel acknowledged Bangladesh’s remarkable efforts in hosting over one million Rohingya refugees, with the Netherlands pledging continued support. The leaders also explored opportunities to deepen trade ties, aiming to further bolster economic cooperation.
Conveying warm wishes from His Majesty King Willem-Alexander, Ambassador van Bommel expressed optimism about the future of Netherlands-Bangladesh relations, setting the stage for enhanced collaboration across multiple domains.
