Bangladesh High Commission Issues Warning on Fraudulent Recruitment Schemes for Sabah, Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, August 1, 2025 – The Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia has issued an urgent warning to Bangladeshi citizens seeking employment in Sabah, Malaysia, about a fraudulent recruitment syndicate targeting job seekers. The High Commission clarified that no agreement or Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) currently exists between the governments of Bangladesh and Malaysia for recruiting workers to Sabah, and no decision has been made by Sabah authorities to hire Bangladeshi workers.

In a public notice released on Friday, the High Commission revealed that the syndicate is deceiving aspiring workers by collecting passports and cash under false promises of securing jobs in Sabah. The notice stressed that no official recruitment process for Bangladeshi workers in Sabah is in place, and discussions with relevant Sabah authorities are still ongoing.

The High Commission urged citizens to avoid falling for the syndicate’s misleading claims and to refrain from making any financial transactions with such groups until an official agreement or MoU is formalized. It assured the public that any approval for recruiting Bangladeshi workers in Sabah will be announced through the Bangladesh High Commission’s official website in Kuala Lumpur. The High Commission advised Bangladeshi workers to exercise caution and verify information through official channels to avoid becoming victims of fraudulent schemes.
