Gaibandha, 15 July 2025 – The Government of Japan has provided a grant to the SKS Foundation to launch a project aimed at delivering low-cost eye care services to low-income and vulnerable communities in Gaibandha and surrounding districts, while also strengthening the local medical service system, according to a statement from the Embassy of Japan.
On Tuesday, First Secretary Karasawa Shinju and Second Secretary Makiguchi Yasuyuki visited Gaibandha to attend the inauguration ceremony of “The Project for Procurement of Eye Care Equipment for SKS Eye Hospital in Gaibandha District.” The initiative, funded through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP), seeks to improve access to affordable eye care and enhance healthcare infrastructure in the region.
“I hope this project will contribute to improving the eye care services in Gaibandha and other nearby districts, and help people minimize their sufferings in eye-related sickness,” said Karasawa during the ceremony.
Since 1989, Japan has supported 221 NGO projects through the GGHSP program, with total grants amounting to approximately USD 17.5 million, aimed at enhancing economic and social human security at the grassroots level.
